As part of IWD2019 I would like to celebrate ALL women who work within the tech sector as “Women in Tech”.
This includes women in developer/engineering roles… AND it also includes women in Technical Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, QA, Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, Project Managers… and even HR. I know I’ve likely missed someone… forgive me.
All women working in the tech industry make a contribution to the industry, not just those in developer roles. Working in it, even on the “business-side”, they know a lot about tech.
Yet, for some absurd reason, these women are overlooked, even though they deal with the same issues of often being discounted, not encouraged, not promoted, and not listened to. Sometimes even more so.
I had a funny thing happen in my career. I started as a strong technical contributor. As I moved up the ladder and was less hands on, I found people assumed I “wasn’t technical” or had no technical knowledge. As if amnesia set in. (I sometimes wonder if men in the industry have the same issue? Let me know if you do.) It made me appreciate all roles and all contributions, at any level.
If you work in Tech, and you self-identify as a women, you are a Women in Tech. Regardless of your role, level or experience.
